MINI Electrical Diagnostics

MINI shares BMW's electronics architecture, using the same Body Domain Controller (BDC), Car Access System (CAS), Footwell Module (FRM) and Junction Box Electronics (JBE) approach as its parent. Because the platform is compact, water ingress and connector corrosion are particularly common causes of body-electronics and warning-light faults. MINI keyless, immobiliser and charging faults are diagnosed the same way as BMW.

MINI Control Modules & Electronics

Key modules and electronic systems used across MINI vehicles. Correct identification of the module is the first step in proper diagnosis.

BDC — Body Domain Controller

Body control on newer MINIs; locking, lighting, comfort.

FRM — Footwell Module

Common failure point — lighting, windows, mirrors; vulnerable to water ingress.

CAS — Car Access System

Immobiliser and keyless start; key-not-detected faults.

JBE — Junction Box Electronics

Power distribution; multi-system faults when it fails.

Common MINI Electrical Faults

Faults we frequently see on MINI vehicles. Each links to a detailed, all-makes guide covering symptoms, causes and our diagnostic approach.

FRM failure after water ingress or voltage spike
Key not detected / no-start
Battery drain and charging warnings
Lighting and window faults from footwell module
